While screen-based interfaces are widely used for their familiarity and efficiency, they can still present usability challenges; this project explores this by redesigning the NS (National Dutch Railways) ticketing machine as a tangible alternative and comparing both interfaces through user testing to assess sense of control and user engagement across diverse users.

The tangible interface translates the ticketing process into a sequence of physical actions, where users directly manipulate elements to select destinations, adjust values, and confirm choices.

These results, based on lab testing with 11 participants, outline the strengths and weaknesses of both interfaces across ease of use, sense of control, and engagement.
